Some game franchises are just timeless. I’ve loved Pokémon since I first watched the Anime as a kid, I even have a collection of soft toys that my Father won in several claw machines one holiday.
I used to play the card game (before I fell in love with Magic: The Gathering) and I’ve played the video games. Not all of them in fairness, but enough to know I love them.
Recently, I even resurrected my old Pokémon Go account as a way of getting myself and my Wife-To-Be out for walks, and for as long as my attention span holds I think it should work.
But last night, I decided it was time to re-visit a traditional Pokémon game.
Last night I booted up Pokémon Brilliant Diamond. Now, my two favourite Pokémon games growing up were Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Ruby. So when I found out about the Diamond remake it was a zero hesitation purchase, and it became the first Pokémon game I fully played to completion.
So starting a new game, knowing what was in store for me, I wanted to play it differently. I haven’t got the heart for a Nuzlocke challenge so I’ve set myself a different goal.
I am going to beat the game using nothing but Bidoofs.
To Quote Bulbapedia:
Bidoof is a brown, rodent-like Pokémon with four short legs. It has a short, dark brown snout and a small, red nose. Cream-colored markings cover its underside and surround its face. Round tufts of fur form its tail, with five on the male and three on the female. Similar tufts line the bottom of its face and two singular ones form its ears. Bidoof’s black paws have three toes with some webbing between them. Protruding from Bidoof’s upper jaw are large incisors, which it uses for gnawing on wood and rocks. These teeth grow constantly, so this Pokémon needs to gnaw on hard substances to keep them ground down.
So, with my army of Angry Beavers, I am going to go out there, Traverse Mount Coronet, Save the Lake Guardians, Capture Dialga and Beat the elite Four.
Right now I have my Team of Bidoofs (Named B, I, D, O, O and F) and we have made it to Oreburgh City (and been thoroughly thrashed by Roark, There looks to be a fair bit of grinding in the near future… sigh).
The one caveat I am giving myself is that I will not prevent them from evolving into Bibarel as I want to support by Beaver Besties.
To Quote Mewtwo from the First Pokémon movie:
The circumstances of one’s birth are irrelevant; it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.
Even a Team of Beavers can beat the God of Time if they work hard enough.
Bidoof.
