Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.

I have always enjoyed this quote from Mary Shelley’s famous novel Frankenstein. I remember the first time I saw it was in my teens, on some obscure inspirational Facebook page that had been shared by one of my aunts. It resonated with me so much I asked my father, who enjoyed oil painting in his spare time, to paint me a poster with this quote so that I could hang it on my bedroom wall. It stayed on my wall for a number of years until my cat decided one day that she wanted to add a few artistic scratches of her own. She tore through the canvas, and the poster was binned.

It was some years later when I read Frankenstein that I found the full quote was actually one of the Monster’s speeches to Victor Frankenstein:

“Your hours will pass in dread and misery, and soon the bolt will fall which must ravish from you your happiness forever. Are you to be happy while I grovel in the intensity of my wretchedness? You can blast my other passions, but revenge remains–revenge, henceforth dearer than light or food! I may die, but first you, my tyrant and tormentor, shall curse the sun that gazes on your misery. Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful. I will watch with the wiliness of a snake, that I may sting with its venom. Man, you shall repent of the injuries you inflict.”

Ah. A touch less inspirational.

My Name is Adam Fox. Welcome to my humble abode, my little corner of the internet. This website is a place for me to let the booglie-wooglies that run around my mind out for a little fresh air, a coffee, maybe a brief jog. This is my little pet project, a place where I can talk about what is on my mind. A place to give updates on the work I am doing and future projects I have lined up. Mostly, this is a place for me to be me.

I have been considering making this website for a number of years, however unlike Frankenstein’s monster I am not fearless. The thought of having my personal thoughts out there in a more public forum makes me… uneasy. But years of reading Pratchett has led me to one undeniable fact: Bravery is not the absence of fear, it is action in spite of it.

So here we are, my first post on my newborn website. In time I plan to post project updates, life updates, and many photos of my cat. If you’ve managed to find your way here for whatever reason, I hope you see something that made the journey worthwhile. Maybe a little something that will put a smile on your face, no matter how briefly.

But for now, if you have somehow managed to stumble across this page, I have only one thing to say: Greetings Travelers, I bid you welcome!
